In past years the some members of the catholic community from the university would have gone on a retreat in Belmont Abbey and those who have been would remember Fr. Dyfrig Harris. We have recieved the sad new of his death. He was much loved and will be missed by the Warwick community past and present. May he rest in peace.

Thursday 26th January
12.30- Canon Edward Stewart will be celebrating Mass at the small chaplaincy. He will also be available an hour before and after Mass
Friday 27th January
7.30pm- The Bible study group will be meeting at St. Joseph the Worker’s parish
Sunday 29th January
12.30pm- We will be celebrating Mass at the main hall of the chaplaincy. This may be Canon Edwards last Mass with us so we plan on having a lunch/meal after Mass. It would be brilliant if all could come to show Canon Edward our appreciation for his help during this and last term
Monday 30th January
7.15pm- We will be showing the film ‘Of Gods and men’. Before the beginning of the movie a few members will be talking about their experience during their time at the Brownshill monastery. The order who run this monastery are from the same order of the main characters of this movie.
Brownshill
Last weekend 15 members of CathSoc went to the monastery run by Bernardine Cistercian Sisters in Gloucestershire. The group departed Friday evening, where after Dinner; the group joined the sisters in prayers. Throughout the next day a range of activities took place, including a talk given by one of the nuns, followed by a question and answer session, Bible study, Rosary, and an enjoyable walk around the hills around the monastery. The retreat concluded with Sunday Mass where members of CathSoc participated. The group is very grateful to the sisters for their remarkable work and we pray for all of them

Flame Congress 2012
Taking place in Wembley Arena on the 24th March 2012, this event will be the largest ever Catholic youth gathering which has ever taken place in the UK with speakers such as Fr. Christopher Jamison OSB, Mgr. John Armitage and Archbishop Vincent Nichols.. Those who will want to go please let us know ASAP! So that if enough people reply we can get tickets and go as a group! Note the Saturday it takes place on is the weekend after we have finished Term 2. Tickets will cost around £18. Let us know by email on su446@sunion.warwick.ac.uk

If you’re interested in becoming involved with the music for Mass please get in touch with Ben Ryan (B.P.Ryan@Warwick.ac.uk or after Mass, or just turn up to a rehearsal!)
We run through all the music at optional rehearsals on Wednesday afternoons in the Chaplaincy at 3.30 and from roughly 12.15 before Mass on Sundays. You are welcome to play as much or as little as you like, and whatever your talent or level there will be something you can contribute!

We have a New Chaplain
It was announced last Sunday that we have a new chaplain, Fr. Harry Curtis. He is expected to arrive towards the end of January.
Friday 13th January
12.30pm- Mass will be celebrated in the small chapel by Canon Edward. Canon Edward will be available both before and after Mass.
7.00pm- Bible Study at St. Joseph the Worker Church
Sunday 15th January
12.30pm- Mass at the main chaplaincy celebrated by Canon Edward
Monday 16th January
6.30pm- Get together and catch up at Varsity; we ask those who wish to come to meet with us at the chaplaincy entrance at 6.30pm
Thursday 19th January
12.30 pm- Mass will be celebrated in the small Chapel by Canon Edward. Canon Edward will be available both before and after Mass
Brownshill Retreat
For those who are coming an email has been sent providing information about the cost of the retreat and details which need to be enclosed by you to us. Please could the amount which needs to be paid be given to Vincent Cheung, Michelle Ossei-Williams or Daniel Yara

Note the change of Sunday Mass time, this new time will be kept for every week. Also this coming weekend is the formal announcement of our new chaplain
Sunday 8th January – The Epiphany of the Lord
12.30pm- Mass will take place at the chaplaincy. Anyone who would like to participate in our music group, please arrive at 12.15 for a quick practice
Wednesday 11th January
There will be a music rehearsal for those interested in participating in our music group! Time is still to be confirmed, as soon as it is known an email will be sent to everyone!
Friday 13th January

2nd December

3rd December
5.00pm- Mass will be at the main chaplaincy Hall.
5th December
5.00pm- There will be an ecumenical Christmas carol service, Canon Edward will be joining us and will the Anglican Bishop of Coventry. All are welcome to join! There will be a small social after the service.
6.30pm- CathSoc will be having a Christmas Dinner at Xanana’s and Canon Edward will be joining us! This may be Canon Edward’s last week at the university so please come to show our appreciation for his time this term at the University. Please meet us at the Chaplaincy no later than 6.30! RETREAT
We are planning to go for a retreat on the 20th of January in Brownshill monastery near Gloucester and be back on the 23rd of January. We have booked the weekend and we are now arranging transportation, in total it is expected to cost around £35 each, however we will hopefully be getting some funding reducing the price. This is the first ever Catholic Youth Congress, where there is a chance to discover a fresh dimension to faith, be in a vibrant picture of the national church and there will be a chance to listen to speakers such as Fr. Christopher Jamison OSB, Mgr. John Armitage and Archbishop Vincent Nichols. Whoever wants to come, please check that you are free that date and contact us ASAP!! Tickets will be distributed at first come first serve basis. Costs will be around £18. Either email CathSoc on su446@sunion.warwick.ac.uk or Daniel Yara on D.Yara@warwick.ac.uk.

25th November

6.00pm- Mass will be in the chaplaincy main hall. Note the change of time. First Sunday of Advent
28th November
7.30pm – There is a special reconciliation advent service, where adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament will occur. Canon Edward will lead the service where there will be an opportunity for the sacrament of Confession to be taken. There will be a wide range of music, mostly made up of Taize meditational music. The evening will end with benediction. We encourage many to come! It will be the perfect way to begin the season of advent.

Monday 21st November
8.00pm- CathSoc social! Again we meet again at the chaplaincy for food and drink! After which, we’ll go to the Dirty Duck for more Drinks!
Wednesday 23rd November
3.15p.m.- Music practice for all those who want to get involved with the music during Mass. Anyone who can play an instrument or wants to sing during our Mass, please feel free to come along! All levels of experience in Music are welcome! It will take place at the chaplaincy Main Hall.
Thursday 24th November
12.30-1.00- Mass will take place in the small chaplaincy room
Saturday 26th November
5.30p.m.-Catholic Mass. Note the change of time
Monday 28th November
7.30p.m. (tbc)- A spiritual service will take place. Adoration and Benediction, along with the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation, will take place at the chaplaincy main Hall. This will be a great way to begin Advent

There is Mass at 12.30pm Canon Stewart is available for drop visits from 11.30- 12.15 and 1.15-2.15.

Thursday 3 November
12.30 – 1.00 Mass will be celebrated in the small chapel.
11.00-12.15 and 1.15- 2.30 – Open door with Canon Edwards. Feel free to pop along to say hi! He will also be available for Confession and any other spiritual needs.
Friday 4th November
7.00p.m.- Bible study . We will meet up and have dinner with dessert (which is of course free!) and then we will have a friendly meeting where scripture is read and an open discussion of our thoughts will take place. Even if you just want to listen to peoples opinions, come along!! Someone will be leaving at 6.30pm for those who are interested to come from the university chaplaincy

5.00- Sunday Mass. With a short social afterwards

8.00- CathSoc social. The content of the evening will be given later to the date. COME and enjoy!!
